Chad is Co-Founder of The Chertoff Group, and formerly served in the CIA and DHS. He also worked as an investment banker at the firms of Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs.

Chad is a passionate defender of democracy at home and abroad. He has previously helped advise various Republican political campaigns, including as the Chairman of Ted Cruz’s presidential campaign in 2016. After Senator Cruz attempted to interfere with the outcome of the 2020 election, Chad formally denounced and separated from Cruz for undermining our democracy. He worked with Republicans and former Democratic opponents to co-found Citizens for a Strong Democracy (CSD), which in the 2020 election crisis marshaled government officials to assure the American people that they could rely upon an accurate counting of ballots. He then joined the Board of Unite America, a non-partisan movement to put voters first by fostering a more representative and functional government. Chad is active in other democracy protection groups including RepresentUs, the YPO Democracy Group, and Ukraine Strong.
